Kelly Thames Bennett joined the Law Offices of J. Jeltes, Ltd. in July of 2016 and is now designated as a Partner in firm operations. Ms. Bennett has worked for over 8 years in family law matters, including parentage, divorce, child support, parenting time and parental responsibility (custody), domestic violence, premarital and post-nuptial agreements, and various post-decree matters in Cook County, DuPage County and Lake County. She regularly represents individuals going through challenging life transitions, including divorce, separation, adoption, and guardianship.
Ms. Bennett brings an intelligent, candid, and thoughtful approach to complex matters, evidenced by stellar reviews from clients, colleagues, and judges.
She is the 2018-2019 Vice Chair for the Standing Committee on Women and the Law of the Illinois State Bar Association and has taught a continuing legal education seminar in Family Law Litigation Strategy for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Ms. Bennett received her Juris Doctorate degree from DePaul University College of Law. While at DePaul, Kelly was a student attorney for the DePaul Family Law Clinic, representing victims of domestic violence and underprivileged divorce clients. Kelly received the CALI award for Excellence for her work in the DePaul Family Law Clinic and interned at the Chicago Legal Clinic in family law matters.
She also volunteers pro bono legal service through Chicago Volunteer Legal Services in the areas of domestic relations and minor and adult guardianship.
In her free time, Ms. Bennett enjoys staying active, practicing yoga, doing arts and crafts like macramé and painting, and honing her talent for growing plants. The firm can attest to a new and improved atmosphere that Ms. Bennett brings to the firm, which includes her unique attentiveness, dedication, and loyalty to serving her clients well.
Kelly was born and raised in Texas, lived in New York, and currently resides in the city of Chicago with her husband, Ken.
